Default Attachments while roaming

Hello,

I don't know where to post this, so please move it if necessary.

A bunch of people from work are going over to Germany and Switzerland for business purposes, mostly with 9700's, and I'm wondering about attachments while they're there. My understanding is that when you receive an email with an attachment, you won't get charged for the attachment's file size if you only open the email, but not the attachment.

Someone else that we know has an idea that if you receive an email with an attachment, even if you don't open the attachment, you will still get charged for the attachment's file size. This doesn't sound right to me though, because - as far as I know - nothing happens as far as data transfer with attachments until you tell them to open after you've gone into the email. Pictures could be a bit of an issue as I think that some of them may show up in the email as soon as you open it, just like in Outlook or Outlook Express.

The reason I'm asking all of this is because data charges while they're there will be insane; ~$60 for 5MB with our provider (Telus)?

Obviously with the 9700's they can use wifi if it's available, but it won't be available all of the time, and some of them will be using WorldBerry's which don't have wifi.

Attachments are downloaded on demand. If you don't open them, or download them, you should not be charged.
