Is there any way to tell a 9700 to use the default message profile sound on a Contact Alert?

I am only interested in having a different ring tone, I don't need a unique alert for messages received from a contact, in fact it's kind of confusing because now I don't know which email profile/service it's coming from.

If you are talking about an e mail alert go to profiles then ringtones and alerts. You can edit that there. If you are talking about a contact ringtone go to the contact and hit edit. You should be able to change it.

I don't follow what you're saying. When you create a 'Contact Alert' the 9700 then creates exceptions for the Phone ringtone and the Messages ringtones/sounds. I do want the exception for the phone ringtone, however, I would prefer the message alerts to continue to use the ringtone/sounds that are defined in the current profile. However, it appears you are forced to use the message exception.
