My girlfriend upgraded to a 9700. She is on Rogers, basic BIS plan. When she gets an SMS from someone in her Contacts only the number shows up, not the person's name. Strange b/c if click on the Blackberry symbol key you if gives an option to 'show contact info'. I already tried changing the 'show names' setting to 'yes' but doesn't work.

Any help from the genius crowd?

What OS version is she running. There were threads on this in the past. upgrading the OS should fix the issue.

...I tried the wireless update and it shows no updates. Does this function work on the Rogers 9700?

upgrade your os to a newer version: SMS MMS not displaying name

This might help, or not.... Check the settings under Phone Options->Smart Dialing. Make sure you have the correct country code and area code.

That may work, but there are known issues with early versions of 5.0 for the 9700 (and possibly other devices) that introduced that bug.

Upgrading the OS to the latest version is definitely the recommended course of action... follow the sticky at the top of the 9700 forum.
