Question Call Drops Constantly!

Please Login to Remove!

I just switched to the 9700 from the 8900, and I've had various other blackberries, all on Tmobile. Ever since I switched to this 9700, I've been getting a terrible number of call drops. I have to make some calls 5-6 times to just get a few sentences across. Sometimes it's fine. Even when getting my voicemail, the call will drop. It seems to drop in 2 ways, either just going silent, or that annoying tone comes up and the screen says "call failed".

Anyone know if this is a known issue with tmobile 3g or something? Any advice?

Done like 50 battery pulls since having the phone, no need to post that kind of basic stuff.

I tried to call tmobile but after multiple failed calls and their stupid voice software telling me not to call from the phone I'm having the problem with, I gave up.

My location has not changed, and I have 4 bars with 3G when this is happening.

One of my colleagues had a similar problem on a 9700... couldn't get more than a few sentences out and then bang "Call Failed". Hard reset didn't work, SIM replacement didn't work so a replacement handset it was. Sorry if this isn't good news!

Right now I can't even make a ****ing call. It just goes straight to call failed and the noise, over and over. Also, a lot of times when I do answer calls, I just hear nothing. Sometimes I hear them talking but they can't hear me.

UGH now I'm getting calls, hearing nothing, and THEN the noise.

I bought this phone off a guy in Hawaii who I trust (he's been posting on the same forum as me since 2002), and it was completely sealed like you'd buy it from the store, and I verified inside everything was new. What can I do if it is bad hardware?

Try an OS upgrade to the newest. Can't hurt to try that and see if still no dice see if he will refund.

Do you have Black/WhiteList on your phone? That application wreaked havoc on my old Curve. Dropped calls all the time. I definitely won't be loading it on my new 9700.
Just a thought.

Default Not sure if this will help

Not sure if this will help but try going into Mobile Network Options and changing it from "2G & 3G" to "2G" only. I experienced dropped calls months ago in Dallas, changed it to 2G (figuring it was a network issue) then I recently changed it back to 3G. Sometimes it still drops but not as much as it used to.

Hopefully the network infrastructure is improving every day - if yours is dropping as often as you say it is - it may be a device issue though.

Good luck.

Just like you said switching "2G & 3G" to "2G" solves all the problems.
