I am new to BB and just have a quick question. I am getting an offer to buy an unlocked T-Mobile Bold 9700, however, I live in Canada and I heard that unlocked T-Mobile bold will not pick up Roger's 3G network in Canada. How true is that and why?

It's true. They use different radio frequencies. A T-Mobile Bold 9700 will not work on Rogers. I believe an AT&T 9700 will work on Rogers.

So I am not a big "Data Plan" user and I have asked Rogers to block my 3G Data services becuase I use WIFI and don't want to be charged for DATA. My question is: Does blocking 3G services effect the network reception (voice calls) at all?

Also, could you tell me whether I can use any blackberry Applications on wifi like you can use on the iPhone. such as facebook, weather network, email system or do I have to subscribe to data plan in order to use these apps?

No, blocking DATA should not hamper VOICE usage whatsoever.

No, and "DATA" that uses any of BlackBerry services will NOT work without a valid BlackBerry specific data plan. You should be able to use a 3rd party browser like Opera over wifi for SOME things... but getting it installed on your BlackBerry without a data plan will be tough... and without a BlackBerry DATA plan, your experience will be severely hampered/restricted.

But as NJ said above, you will not get any 3g voice reception with a TMobile Bold. You will only get edge...it likely won't matter but just thought it best to be clear.
