Default Phone seemingly making calls on its own

Please Login to Remove!

My phone seems to be glitching and making calls on its own. It seems like it started about a week ago but at the time I thought I was absentmindedly forgetting to lock the keyboard. Well 2 nights ago with the phone on a desk being charged I got woken up by a call at 3:30 am from my dad asking why I just called him. Last night around 10:00 work called because they got a couple calls from my phone which was sitting on a table with no one near bye. I'm thinking maybe the call button is broken as it seems to be the last number that called me or that I called that gets dialed but I am stumped as to how it would register it being pressed 2 hours after its been sitting stationary. I'm sure it has to be the button but I don't know if I want to buy a new phone on that assumption. I could try reloading the OS but it just doesn't seem like something that could be caused by a bug without 1000's of complaints. Anyone seen anything similar?

Has the device been exposed to moisture? Weird keyboard and button issues have been reported for as slight exposure as a sweaty pocket or foggy shower room.

I am in a lot of industrial facilities for work and the dust/grease factor is definitely a problem. Guess I can try to pick up a replacement keyboard and see if it goes away.

Keyboard is definitely shot. It dialed again on me a few minutes ago while it was sitting on my desk. I looked over cause the screen lit up and saw that it had registered the letter M and the next thing I know it is calling the first M contact in my address book. Forgot it was still under warranty so just swapping it out through AT&T

Interesting. Not that it is for sure an environmental cause, but is this your first blackberry, or have you used previous models in that environment?

Until then turn off the speed dial. You might be talking about the person is dials...

Listen to the voice of experience...

not sure if it's been suggested you could try this:

Turn on auto lock after a short time period
Turn off allow calls whilst locked.

I have had another blackberry in the environment I work in but beat it to shreds and it only lasted about 9 months. I switched over to the iphone from that phone for about a year but couldn't take the lack of exchange folder support any longer and went back to the blackberry. The iphone didn't hold up particularly well either in the environment and I went through 4 units in a year. The only phone I've had that has survived longer than a year was an indestructible nextel brick that doubled as a hammer.

Thanks for the pointer on the turn off calls while locked I didn't know it existed.

Is this the same phone that changed its password by itself?

Not an environmental problem in my opinion. Mine started doing the same thing yesterday. Called a guy three times in the early morning hours intermittently every few hours. Called another number last night and at 7am this morning. Phone was just sitting on a counter each time. No buttons being accidentally pushed. Going back a couple of weeks, the phone is lighting up by itself and some window appears with the word Call followed by contacts in my address book. I don't even know how to get to that particular window. Old 8700 model I've had for years. I need to find a cable and see if I can reinstall software.
