Default New BB 9700 user with some questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, I just bought a BB Bold 9700 (AT&T version). I live in the US but go to school in the Caribbean, specifically Dominican Republic. My SIM card is though a carrier from the DR called CLARO. I unlocked my phone using an unlock code from unlock2go.com and the phone has been working great. What I have been having trouble with is downloading BB App world. For some reason it says that my phone does not meet the requirements that are needed to support BB App world. Is this because I have turned off data services while roaming or is it a defect in the phone??
Thanks for the help guys!!

As above, you need a BB data plan with the carrier you are using. The BB data plan is required for any RIM related services such as email, App World, BBM, Facebook, etc. A generic data plan will not work for the RIM services.

Im switching over from an iPhone 3G and had a data plan with that phone. Does this mean that I have to specifically ask for a BB plan?? Again thanks for the help guys, this site is very useful

Yes. You MUST have a BlackBerry specific data plan. The iPhone plan will not take advantage of the BlackBerry features.
