Default Bold 9700 stolen or not stolen

Hi, I'm about to purchase a BB 9700. I'm wondering if there is anyway to tell if the phone is stolen or not, because I don't want to purchase a stolen phone. Thanks.

Have the seller provide the IMEI and PIN. Then call your carrier and ask them to check it. That will also tell you if the PIN is clear for you to use.

And read this from our FAQ, even if you aren't buying from eBay. It good info to know before buying any used BB.

Thanks. That really helps a lot. After I call the provider and give them the IMEI and Pin, how long will it take them to tell me whether it is stolen or not?

Usually within the same phone call.
They look it up on the computer while talking to you.

Post Don't forget common sense!

Don't forget to use common sense! If the seller is using a free mail account and a blocked cell phone (or refuses to provide phone contact info) you should be concernced. If the seller is the original owner, ask for the receipt or original packaging or both. (depends on the model and how old - but the 9700 bold is newish I think many would still have packaging/receipt).

Stolen phones might also come with a stolen SIM (from an amateur thief). You can call the carrier on the SIM and report the SIM (even without the pin).
