Default 9700, slow booting time

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,
im in a need of an advice.
i have my 9700 for a month and i've noticed that the booting takes "forever" recently, without any changes on my behalf.
"Googled" it, everything looks fine to me, but still, it takes more than 5 minutes for a simple restart.
Dont have too much apps installed as well.

What can be done to improve this situation?

thanks in advance for your time

Depending on the applications and available memory the 9700 does take a long time. Not sure 5 minutes but it is high. do you have a lot of Apps?

Slow booting generally is due to low memory caused by Apps among other things.
The OP dropped off before he answered.

there arent too many apps, to be honest, a couple of Google apps, a GPS app from my carrier, and a trial version of beejiveIM.
the "free memory" parameter is at about 108-111 MB free at any given time.

hi. 9700/6.0.0.358

Boots in 2 minutes flat.

However, if you don't like running beta OS versions, I found that the longer you use the BB the more scrambled the boot files get. Just like a PC, they need defragging to speed up the boot time. My 9700 was a fast booter for 2 weeks, and then it really slowed noticeably. Until the time it was one month old, when it became very slow.

You can either upgrade the OS or backup, wipe, and reload the OS. Either way will refresh the boot-up files.

Latest official OS's are here;

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

9700/6.0.0.358 is here;

------------

Backup your BB first.

Then go to:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SN0E878G

Download the 155mb file to your PC.

Make sure Desktop Manager is CLOSED - do not use it or open it during this procedure!

Double click on the downloaded file to extract/install it.

When it's done installing - Open: C:/Program Files/Common files/Research in motion/AppLoader - (file folder).

Delete the file called Vendor.xml

then - double click on Loader.exe in that same folder

Plug in your BB. Loader will recognize the PIN. Select the 3rd party Apps you want to transfer to the new OS 6 (NOTE! OS 6.0 is big! So only transfer the absolute must haves! Don't take any themes (they won't work and may crash the BB)!!!! Don't keep useless apps you MIGHT use one day.... Keep it small and critical! You can always add them later. Start the upgrade. When it's done (about 45min) you will have a Rocket Berry 9700.

i don't think its official OS, latest official was from at&t 5.0.0.979, OS 6 for 9700 is leaked versions, but you right about upgrading OS's is always makes slightly faster a boot time, also op needs to check if Memory Cleaner app is on, if yes needs to be disabled (its useless anyway) so restart time will increase dramatically.
