Default Upgrading from a Bold 9000 to a 9780

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking to upgrade from a 9000 to a 9780. I just have a couple of questions about compatibility of accessories.

I have a number of spare batteries for my 9000. Do 9780s use the same batteries?

Does the 9780 fit into the holsters and cases for the 9000?

How much more disk space will I have for apps? I kept running out and having to uninstall games and other apps.

Any feedback is appreciated.

1) YES, you can use your 9000 batteries in ur 9780
2) No and YES. the phone is much smaller than the 9000 so it does not fit onto a "clip on / face in" type holster but does fit into a 9000 belt "pocket" type holster. but, be careful because like i said, the phone IS smaller and if you do not have a case that you can close, your 9870 will fly out when ur running or walking down the stairs. I learned the hard way. :( So it will fit, but it will float around a bit and just make sure u can CLOSE the case, that's all.
3) Plenty more. Your bold had 128mb for system and apps compared with 512 for system and apps on the 9780. Granted you will be running OS6 compared to OS5 so more ram will be allocated to the OS, but you will still have far more memory and a much much better camera over the 9000.

any other questions, don't hesitate.
Happy New Year btw!

The batteries from the 9000 will fit the 9780 --- I've tried it.

Unfortunately, the case will not fit.

OS 6 has more space, so you won't have the same disk space issue.

Going back to the battery issue, I highly recommend keeping two batteries charged at the same time, because its not good to let your 9780's charge get too too low.

Harrison, its not OS 6 that has more space, its the device.

Oh I'm sorry that's what I meant. I worded that incorrectly.

Sorry.

.... Also, words are important. Sloppy wording is sloppy thinking and sloppy communication.

Batteries may fit, but that doesn't make it the right battery. I did a quick search and it appears the 9000 and 9780 use the same model M-S1 battery, but anyone who needs to know should look it up themselves and confirm.

And disk space?

Keeping two batteries charged at the same time?

For what it's worth, whether someone needs to carry a spare battery depends on the person. It isn't a universal recommendation. What's good for you doesn't necessarily make it good for everyone.

I always have a spare in my pocket...for many years now, but I'm anal about never running out of battery power on any of my portable devices. LOL

It's happened more than once, that I've burned through a battery in less than a day, with no access to a recharge at that moment.

Still, that's you. Some people solve their needs with an extended battery, and others are able to recharge during the day. This is one of those to-each-his-own matters. While yes you should no let a BlackBerry battery run all the way down any more than you absolutely have to, that doesn't mean the recommended solution for everyone is to carry a spare. The universal recommendation is don't run your battery down flat day after day (unless you like buying new batteries or something). Everyone needs to weigh the options and do what's best for them.
