Default 9780 : wireless connection when radio signal is off

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I realize that when I switch off my radio/carrier signal, I am not be able to access to certain functions even if my device is connected to wireless, such as the App World, certain web pages, stock application etc..

For Iphone, other than phone calls and sms, I am able to access to all application or web pages even if carrier/radio signal is off but wireless internet is connected.

UMA is a technology that allows voice over wifi if your carrier provides it. Tmobile US is an example of such a carrier.

I have not been able to *confirm* this is the case, but UMA does not depend on the phone (as long as it has wifi...) only the carrier.

It is theoretically possible to use an att BB (like the torch) on TMos UMA network.

An AT&T phone doesn't have UMA enabled because they don't have UMA.
The process to enable UMA though, is a bit dicey.

Why would you want to access App world, web pages or anything dependent on live data, when the wireless connection is OFF? You would only get stale data in that case. Can you play games with the wireless connection off? Maybe that's what you should be doing with a wirelessly UNCONNECTED BB...

The OP is saying the network is off but WI-FI is on, and yet cannot access data features.
