Stop Checking for Updates

Greetings,

I have a 9780 that is stuck in checking for updates wirelessly. I started this process approximately 18 hours ago, left it on (plugged in) all night, and have continued to let it display the message "Checking for Updates" until now. I cannot seem to exit out of this loop, and so far it doesn't seem that it has found an update.

Any thoughts?

Edit: The phone seems to work fine, but I can't seem to get away from that process operating in the background.

Did you try a hard reset? Sounds like just one of those mysterious software hiccups.

I haven't yet, if only because I was paranoid about interrupting it if something more than just "checking" was going on. Pretty soon, however, because this is getting truly annoying.

Thanks Ira.

I understand. Given it seems to have hanged on "checking" and not "updating" is the reason I wasn't worried about a battery pull. Plus it's past time to expect anything to change, I'd say. Post an update when you go the next step or something develops.

Re: Stop Checking for Updates

OK, I finally went it and selected "Check for Updates" once again, and when I was informed that there was an existing request I selected Cancel. After about 4 minutes the BB finally responded that there was an update that was available, which I then downloaded and installed. Everything now apppears just fine, but the process was less than transparent. In fact, I'd say it was downright odd. It seems like the specification of the Cancel was needed to get the updating to release its hold on the device.

I think that I will update "wired" from here on out. Thanks Ira.
