Please Login to Remove!

Hi, i installed the latest OS 6 into my 9700 and although i like the new styling etc, my battery life seems to have suffered, are there any suggestions on how to improve this without going back to the old OS?

Check the FAQ for an article "How to Maximize Battery Life" or something similar.

Check Options>Device>Application Management and scroll to the right to the CPU screen. If Phone is consuming most of your CPU capacity, you've run across a mysterious glitch. Your phone module is constantly cranking and consuming the battery. If you are not using the phone, it should stay around 0% on the Application Management CPU screen. The only solution that I've found is to drop back to 6.0.0.480. OTOH, many have installed OS 6.0.0.5xx without this problem, so it is fixable. If anyone finds out what causes this, please post it.

I found a definite improvement with 6.0.0.534 over 6.0.0.480

I don't doubt it. Several people have reported good results with .534. That's why it is so frustrating that I can't get those same results. I don't think the OS is bad, there is some setting or configuration that is causing this. But I have no idea what it is.

Hi, i have checked the cpu and it tends to be 0% so all good there i think. The spinning clock seems to be in use a lot more and the screen freezes with the trackpad not responding. I am thinking of going back to OS 5 but it's quite nice to be with the new. Would it help if i took as much programmes out as possible?

Unless it is running your free memory down to the 10-15M range or lower, the number of apps shouldn't cause this. Of course, there is always the possibility of a misbehaving app. I reinstalled .546 on my phone after removing every bit of Blackberry software from my PC and only reinstalling Desktop and the .546 loader. The Phone CPU usage problem is still there, but I don't think it is the Phone module itself, anymore. This OS version does an outstanding job of managing memory. Mine stays at 62M free, whereas .480 would start at about 54M free after a reboot and work its way down to just below 30M free. My latest theory is that there is some kind of background memory management going on and my phone is a particularly big mess for it to clean up. It appears that the excessive Phone CPU usage is just a measurement fluke and the excessive CPU time is actually being used by the OS. I've noticed that any activity I do runs the Phone CPU usage to zero, but it returns to near 100% if I leave it alone, indicating that it's a background process. I'm hoping that things will get better as the background memory management process cleans things up. I plan to give it a few more days to see if things improve. I've already noticed fewer instances where it freezes for extended periods. I'd recommend living with it for a while and see if it gets better.

You have identified the exact same problem that i am experiencing. I completely wiped my 9700 back to factory settings, not loaded any apps, and the battery seems to be a bit better. The CPU still spikes on the phone app if I watch it long enough. I still get the pause and choke frequently. Underpowered processor for this software? this is very frustrating.

If it weren't for auto text, I would have left BB already. Can't figure out why Apple can't get that figured out.
