As you found out, 507 means there is no OS on the device. See the sticky at the top of the 9700 section for the latest 9700 OS and instructions on how to install.
Since it will not connect, you have a couple options:
1. see the FAQ to wipe with Jl_cmdr and then reload the OS. There is also a post int he FAQ about what to do if Jl_cmdr will not connect.
2. see the sticky at the top of the BB Help section, "Desktop Manager will not connect/detect my BB" for information.
3. use Google to find and download BBSAK to see if that will connect and allow you to reload the OS.
