OS6 for the 9700 has been out about 6 months now and it would be interesting to hear from anyone who upgraded from OS5 if all things considered they are glad they did?

I upgraded my Bold 9700 to OS 6 a while back. For the most part I am glad I did. Definitely did require the BB OS Shrink though as it is a large O/S.

I also recently started getting intermittent berry lockups, but I didn't bother investigating the reasoning behind that (as I upgraded to a 9800).

I have near to 0 problems with the software itself, or rather not more or less as with the previous (still slow startup if device has to be rebooted, enterprise location stops working after about 2 days time and forces me to reboot)
Only 20MB left on the device, but, the phone is able to live with it.

But I dislike some of the OS6 new "features":
- cant change browser Identity String
- cant save java settings/browser ID with a bookmark
- blackberry maps idicator of currentlocation is extremly small, and coloured medium dark green (like the camouflage colour of soldier clothes). If you try to locate yourself on the map while moving, you have to search for seconds to find yourself
- blackberry maps discarded most of my saved favourites without warning, because it does not support subfolders in the favourite list any more - bad behaviour, and a feature lost which really made sense.
- map does not follows location reliable (only follows location at a zoom level which is not usable while driving, only suitable for pedestrians)

I still think about a downgrade to OS5 because of the above reasons, but then, it wont get better if I buy a new BB in the near future, so, i tend to keep OS6 on the 9700.

I struggled along with OS 6 on my 9700 for 2-3 weeks, and the negative aspects finally added up to too much of an effort. I suspect the problem probably goes back to the fact that the 9700 is too memory challenged to run the new browser, plus certain websites (NY Times, Huffington Post) just don't load correctly if at all.

Oh, and the calendar in OS6? Needlessly complicated, with features that hinder rather than help the process of viewing your day. OS5 calendar is much more useful.

Anyway, I just retro-graded back to good old OS 5. It was a challenge (as all OS upgrade/downgrades are) but am very happy I did.

When I upgraded my 9650 to OS 6 I hated it at first. VERY different look and feel, especially the Tray feature. It also broke some apps I relied on (like Viigo). But after giving it some time I find it's not the disaster I initially thought it was. And I've found other apps or updates to ensure I can still get the same functionality out of my BlackBerry. Viigo has been replaced with BlackBerry News Feeds, and the BBNF app is superior to Viigo. My REXwireless stuff, in which I have a substantial investment in both money and time, continue to work like they always have.

All in all, OS 6 is ok. And it's the future.

I did mine a few weeks before i upgraded me to a torch. It definately was good. It helped me get ready for the new device.

I've kept my 9700 up to date with each new beta release and am quite happy with it so far.

Don't know how long I can keep my BB though... I would like to be able to tether my Android tablet (3.0.1) and don't think Tether is going to come through.

But, that isn't RIM's fault.

Waited for the official AT&T release. Totally happy with it. I've had zero problems since the upgrade.

hahaha!!! I cant even remember how is OS5 and I do love the OS6, for me its way better.
There are a few minor bugs, I cant really list them cause I sort of got used. One problem is not all apps works perfect and free memory drops down to about 35MB.

Upgraded a few weeks ago. Its ok so far but he home screen is horrible. I used to have the today theme that gave great clear view of the calls/messages status. Now I have to mass around with the stupid popup trays etc. Same goes for the apps, its so easy to scroll back and forth when not intended and makes things much harder to navigate.

Any updates I can install for a better status/home screen so I can see a summery of all calls and messages?

Also they removed some of the ring tones, why would they do that? I used to have I think cricket ring and now its gone and all thats left is some cheesy ring :(

There are definitely themes out there that would replace what you have now and be much more what you're looking for. Just check around.
