What are you calling rebooting and resetting? Have you tried a hard reset? Even if you have, do it again: With the power on, remove the battery, and this time wait a good minute instead of the usual 30 seconds. See if that does the trick.
By the way, are you have any other problems? Can you open the address book? If you start typing within the address book app, does it start to only list contacts with the letters you type?
