So hey guys I just bought a BlackBerry 9700 from eBay. I found it it has OS 6 :(
So I did some research and now I know how to downgrade it. Only problem is that on the T-Mobile USA website, it only gives me the download link for the OS 6 operating system and not OS 5.

Is it possible for me to download an OS 5 OS from AT&T and use that OS 5 for my T-Mobile phone? The OS 5 I downloaded is still for Blackberry Bold 9700's.
Someone please let me know asap!

Btw this is how I'm going to downgrade it someone please confirm.

1. Wipe using BBSak (Don't need to backup anything since I don't have anything on the phone thats my personal use)
2. Install OS 5 on the Desktop
3. Delete Vendor.XML
4. Run Loader.exe
5. Wait for it to finish then enjoy

Absolutely...any software from any provider will work. If you search the top of the threads, where the upgrade files are, you'll see that. There's no issue at all in doing what you want using those files. You should be able to find 5.0 in many places in fact. On the BlackBerry site, you'd find many different versions of 5.0, I'm sure.

And I'm going to call T-Mobile and tell them to add me a BB Data Plan on the phone. Would I have to configure anything like go on settings or anything like that?

Nope; just note that you cannot change the splash screen (the one that occurs when you restart the BB) and that you will never get 3G on it (EDGE only) as T-Mobile US and AT&T use different 3G frequencies.

I didn't know that, I knew they used different freq's but I thought the radio inside the device could use any of the feq's listed in the specs. So if you traveled or roamed it would still work???

T-Mobile has different frequencies in the US than anyone else.. And anywhere else.

Why some of us are not that unhappy with the propects of AT&T buying T-Mobile.

So I guess it was good I never found an unlocked torch. I didn't know EDGE would be the best I got.
