| Same here. I was in AT&T a long time buying mine so I forgot to try the phone once they activated it. On the drive home, I got a call. I was in a known good coverage area, but call quality was metallic sounding. Too late to go back, I will return it tomorrow. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

| Mine sounds like that also. I think it could be a design thing, than again it may be fixed with an OS update. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

| Need A New Sim Card? Other than the "Robotic" sound of speaking into a Tin Can mentioned here, I also noticed in the last 48 hours that I DO HAVE more dropped calls than the last 2 years combined while I had a curve and a bold.
After my 6th or 7th dropped call on the highway, I decided to call AT&T to find out if this was a network issue or device issue.
The rep was quite professional, ran some tests over his end, looked up my account and asked if I received a new SIM card. Of course not! why would I need a new one when I can just replace the old one into my new Torch. He then told me a newer device sometimes need new SIM card to better "function" with it, especially my SIM card has been almost 2 years old.
Anyways, a new SIM card is in the mail and on-route, we will see if it makes things better. | | Offline

| I'm skeptical... that said, I did have a lot of drops with my 9000 and I have yet to have one with the 9800 in the same areas. I did get a new sim card.
What exactly is the tin can sound? I really haven't noticed anything with call quality. It sounds great to me but maybe I'm miss understanding what you guys are describing? | | Offline

If you are not noticing it, maybe your deivce is totally fine. It's very noticeable... almost like you speaking into the phone and you can hear your voice being distortred/unnatural. Try holding up an empty coke can next to your mouth and speak into it. (Let's the best I can describe) | | Offline

| Still don't have my new SIM yet, will post an update once I receive it. I think the new SIM will probably fix the drop calls, but that "Tin Can" kind of voice might not go away until they do a OS upgrade, or it might just be a form factor issue. | | Offline

| Have you guys actually turned down the volume on the bluetooth earpiece if you use it? Also make sure you do a quick battery pull. I doubt the sim car would cause your problem unless you still have an old 64K sim card from singular. | | Offline

Seems the Torch amplifies it much more than my Bold 9000 did. | | Offline
