Default Speed Dial...your kidding me???

Please Login to Remove!

You're seriously going to go BACKWARDS 500 years and NOT let us change the "A", "W" and "Q" speed dial buttons to what WE want them to be????

Someone please tell me I am a moron and just can't find how to do this.

Why would they do this?!?!?!? I have Visual Voice Mail, so now I can't use "W" for work as I have for the last 5 years? I dont use quiet or lock my phone (besides, there is a dedicated button for this on the top out in the open all the time!) so now I have to lose 3 speed dials buttons that I use every hour of every day because someone decided we should not have the ability to change these to what make sense for US??

Man I hope I am wrong...stupid crap like this drives me crazy...........

Out of 26 possible speed dials, those three give you heartburn? No, you can't change those. What device did you have before that you could change those?

My 8310 and my 8800 before that. I can see if this is what it has ALWAYS been, but why would someone make that change now? I don't understand why someone actually took the time to write code to keep you from doing that? That just makes no sense. Why not save yourself some time and let the owner of the device decide? I have had W for work and V for voice mail for years and I assume it will take me that long to stop hitting it.

Prob not that big of a deal for most people, I just hate when they go out of their way to make up your mind for you, when I can see no reason for it. The more the customer can make it fit them -the better I would think. Windows does the same damn thing.....

As has be posted in several threads before, RIM made this change in the newer operating systems.

Perhaps you could contact them at [email address] and see why they made this change.

I guess that somehow I have learned to live with this critical change...

I will take your advice and do just that. I am sure it effects almost no one but me, but what was the reason they felt it nessacary to change it from the way it was? Just seems weird they would spend time and effort locking something that does not seem to be of benefit.

Thanks for the email address.

Why they locked it out...no idea, why they change it? Well, on almost all other mobiles phones, 1 was always voicemail speed dial. It happens that 1 on a BB qwerty keyboard is W.
I would guess they were standardising features for those coming from regular mobile phones.

Its been this was AFAIK since 4.5
W (1) = Voice Mail
Q (#) = Vibrate toggle
A (*) = Depending on OS version is Lock or Standby

You can change W (1) by editing the VM phone number.

You can make a contact an icon on the home screen. Make work one. Don't even open the phone to call work.

For those that can't find this feature, you have to hit the menu key when in the contact list, for whatever reason it's not available as an option in the contact detail view. Neat feature though!
