Default Autolocking the screen

Please Login to Remove!

I keep mistyping on my screen when carrying my device, and would love to have an autolock software, that I could disable by sliding my screen...

I purchased from BBAW "autoLock", that I hated and uninstalled within three days...

I just downloaded now a package that claims to play the trick, and to be compatible with OS6 and touch screen: AddOnis.

In the previous OS versions, this package gets integrated as a line under the Options menu.

Questions:

1 does anyone know where such applications get integrated in OS 6. I looked under the various sub menus of "Options" with no success.

2 Does anyone know a simple autoclock application that works well on the Torch?

Thanks

I thought all blackberrys locked when you put them in the blackberry holster. Although, I guess that is a setting as well.

I currently don't use a holster... and the 9800 release fror AT&T does not come with one.

Defeats the purpose... I don't want to have to use a password. I want to simply press a button or open the slider to unlock.

sheesh.... I thought everyone password protected the BB's in case they were lost or stolen.

Found it:
  • Options,
  • Scroll to the bottom of the screen
  • "Third Party Applications"

AddOnis is working well. Has a lot of tweaks over and above the Autolock. A little pricey if one only needs Autolocking

Have you tried PatternLock? It's in App World, and has both free and paid versions. It sounds like that would fit for what you want.

Downloaded the free version. Does not work. The icon sends you to the options section, and the Options section sends you back to the icon...

Please try it and tell me if it does the same to you.

I guess I don't understand. When I am finished with my device I push the lock button on the top of the device and slide it into my pocket. When I remove it, I either push the button again or simple slide open the device. Either way unlocks the device without any password. Am I missing anything?

If you wish to use a password to unlock your phone, you need to enable the feature and set a password.

In the 9800, it is via Options / Security / Password.

The password will activate based on the timing you set in that menu. So if you lock your phone, and then unlock it in less time than you had set in the above mentioned settings, then the phone will not prompt you for a password.

It's been a few weeks, but my recollection is that it ran a setup wizard at first run to prompt for the pattern. Once installed, clicking the icon should activate the lock. The Options for configuration are under Options > Third Party Applications. From there you can re-configure the pattern, time delay, etc. My guess is clicking the icon is sending you to Options because you don't have a pattern set yet.

I have version 2.0.0.2, which looks to be the current version. Have been using it for a few weeks with no issues.

Try rebooting and/or reinstalling and see if that helps.

This morning I downloaded Pattern Lock from the BB app store. Seems to work pretty well. Highly customizable.

Cost was $2.99

I tried it as well as AddOnis. The latter is more pricey (also has many more functions that I do not need), but I prefer it's highly customizable and simple autolock function.

My issue was that if you don't use a password and lock the device with the button, if the button is touched while in pocket or wherever, it unlocks and then could send, etc.
I like pattern lock as you setup a simple pattern to trace to unlock. Faster than a password, and very flexible on how it is setup.

I used Patternlock, but I didn't like it.
I downloaded Stormslider, set it to launch with the convenience key... and I'm happy as can be! It doesn't offer much for security and it doesn't do what the OP is looking for, but I don't find my phone doing strange things in my pocket any more.

I tried Patternlock, but deleted it this morning. I use my BB as a bedside clock and it's a pain to look at the clock and see 9 dots instead of a clock! Reaching over and trying to run the pattern while half asleep is not right!

AddOnis is simple and "low profile".

You can configure it so that Patterlock allows the phone's existing screen to show through. In other words your clock would be visible.

Just used mine as a night light with the clock (I don't normally) and the clock was visible without the dots.
