WiFi battery drain.... I've never been a big fan of leaving Wifi on, on a Blackberry. As Im using the Torch on T-Mobile, I figured I might as well, as OTA i have only EDGE while in the US. On my iPhone 4, leaving the WiFi on actually consumes LESS battery than 3G. However, on my 2 day test with the Torch so far, staying on WiFi seems to drain the battery quite a bit. As well, does anyone know how the device works when WiFi is on, but, not connected to anything? Does the WIFi "sleep" when not connected, therefore not draining the battery nearly as much as if connected? Or does the WiFi on, not connected, still drain the battery quite a bit? |
It will still drain the battery as it is always looking for a connection. I don't find it to drain that much as I try to use wifi whenever it's available. |
Yup, it will still use battery since it is "searching." |

The best battery saving advice I've heard is to turn the display brightness down to 10 - you'd think it would be too dark, but it's fine and makes a big battery difference, even with minimal use. I used to get down to 20% regularly, now it's rare I get below 50 unless I am having a heavy usage day. |
I have an app called smartwifi that turns the wifi off automatically when you leave a wifi hotspot that you have been connected to...my battery life has improved a lot since installing ! I guess that all you have to do otherwise is to remember to turn off the wifi but I never would so it works for me lol Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
