Just got a 9800 Torch and first few synchs were fine with no problems. Recently (without any changes to desktop manager or anything else on my PC) I'm getting error message 0x8004fcf8 during "process device address book."

I have seen the error several times and on several different forums with no answer. Probably one of those nebulous errors that only the developer knows for sure. You might try searching via Google on error code as I did, "BB sync error 0x8004fcf8" and see if you find something useful.

My initial thought is that there might be a corrupt or blank entry causing the error.

You can try a battery pull on the BB and see if that does anything, it might. You could also reboot the PC and try again. And do a clean install of DM.

So get this! I've been synching regularly since you told me to pull battery with no problems. Just did it again and VOILA! Got the same friggin' error message! Does this mean I have to pull the battery on a regular basis?

Only when you need to do so. A battery pull is the first thing you should do when you have any sort of problem. I know some people who do it at least once a week, just to keep things cleaned out.

So I re-installed the BB software and now the error message is "Unknown error reported". And this is just after pulling the battery.

What version of Outlook are you using - 2010 64 bit by any chance?

The version of Outlook is 12.0.6550.5003 and the date is 21/12/2010.
