Help with keyboard shorcuts
 

Hello everyone,

I got my first BlackBerry (a Torch 9800) a couple of weeks ago and since then have been using your forum as a handy resource to get to grips with all my new handset offers.

I have just joined this morning as I have 3 questions that I have not found answers too. I have posted each as a separate thread which I hope is the right way to do things.

Question 2: I have read several people talking about how good the keyboard shortcuts on the Blackberry, but I don’t seem to be able to get them to work. Can someone please tell me how to quickly access Notes from the keyboard, and how to open and close new tabs in the browser. When I press the keys that are meant to be shortcuts nothing happens.

To open notes, press D from the home screen: notepaD.

Does not work from the virtual keyboard.

Hi there, I appreciate your post but I can't get it to work.

When I press d or D it just adds that to the search bar, it doesn't open anything.

If I press and hold d it asks who I want to assign a speed dial to.

Do you have a Torch to test it with because I am confused!?

Turn the Universal Search Off and the Application Shortcuts On.

Right, that makes sense but now I can't find the Universal Search, or Application shortcut option.

Sorry to be dim - can you point me in the right direction please?

From the Main Screen hit the menu key (with the berries on it) and click on Options. Change the first item from Universal Search to Application Shortcuts.

Fantasic thank you, I can't believe how many times I've opened that screen by mistake and not spotted that right at the top of the page!!!

Can't see the 'Thanks' button on my mobile but I'll hit it tomorrow from my work PC.

I can answer this one as I had read about all the available shortcuts and then posted because they didn't work!

On your phone select the help icon (the big Question Mark), which I think is loose in the 'All' section, I say think because I have moved mine to a folder called Administration.

The first option below the Quick Help section is shortcuts. The information is the same as the link to the manual above, but is stored on your phone so it is always with you.

P.S. I have now thanked the people who participated in this thread for their invaluable help, but wondered why the option is not available when viewed on my BlackBerry directly - it seems like a strange omission on a BlackBerry forum, unless I am missing something again?!

It's a limitation of the forum software which isn't BlackBerry specific.
