Apologies if this has already been asked but I am a new member. I was just wondering if anybody could shed any light on a problem I am having with my Blackberry Torch. Since I have had it, I've only been abroad once (I'm from UK and on the Orange network) and went to Europe. However, my Torch failed to pick up a mobile network in Europe and thus, I had to wait until I returned to the UK to access my texts etc.

I am going to Europe again this coming week, and I really need my torch to pick up a foreign network while I am there, does anybody know how I can make this happen? Or why it is failing to pick up a foreign network?

You might check into a local carrier or a pre-paid SIM card. Roaming is very expensive.
It's more than likely the current SIM was not reconized by any of the carriers or not partnered to roam. Call you carrier and see if they can offer details on your needs.

Also there is an option to deactivate data when roaming. I have roamed in the US from Canada with my Torch without issue and with previous Blackberrys in Europe etc. I don't recall seeing the option re turning off data while roaming before. It may be something new in OS 6. Make sure your Torch is not set to disable data while roaming.
(If you think roaming data charges are high, it is nothing compared to voice. Essential data like e-mails (vs web browsing or Google Maps satelite view - forget streaming radio) do not use much data. $4.00 a minute for voice in many countries. It costs me $1.75 just to call across the street in the US while a phone card will get me back to Canada for less than 5 cents a minute.)
If you are concerned about voice or data charges while roaming, most carriers have roaming plans (but still exorbitent. Rogers offers a plan for voice which brings the cost down to $1.00 a minute for voice, vs 5 cents for a calling card)
