Default VZW 9850 Torch - unable to open emails

I have a very baffling issue with one of my users who just received a new Verizon 9850 Torch.

The device activated fine on the Verizon network, and the enterprise activation went thru without a hitch. He can receive emails, phone calls, text messages, scroll up and down thru the messages, highlight several messages at a time, and navigate menus.

What he cannot do is open any email messages. When he taps on them, they highlight, but won't open. They won't even open when he highlights them and taps Open from the menu or presses the trackpad.

Like I said, he can open text messages, scroll thru the emails, navigate into other menus (I even had him change a device setting to test) - the device just won't open emails.

Screwiest thing I've ever heard of. I had him do the old faithful battery pull, but that didn't help.

He's in another location (so I can't get my hands on the device), so he's going to take into a local Verizon store to see if they can figure it out.

Anyone else hear of this or have it happen? I'm not sure if this would be hardware or software since it works for everything else just fine.

Very odd. I would suggest maybe a corruption in the database on the device. I would clear the Messages database via desktop manager.

If that failed, I would suggest reinstalling the OS.

This is a known issue with the device. I had the same problem when I picked up the Torch. Verizon even replaced with another one for me, same issue. I was at another Verizon store in another state last weekend, and was advised to wait for a fix.
