Unhappy 3G Not working on BB Torch 9800?

I have an unlocked BB 9800 Torch (AT&T branded) device that I just started using on T-Mobile. The service books and emails work fine. Voice is great. UMA is working. However at the top It says EDGE and not 3G and the internet is slow since it is using EDGE.

Changed TCP/IP settings - What else is needed to make this Blackberry Torch work at 3G speeds on T-Mobile network?

Any advice and all help is sincerely appreciated.

An AT&T branded device will not work on 3G on T-Mo. AT&T uses a different 3G frequency band than T-Mo. The best you will get is EDGE.

from the specs it looks both are the same bands for UMTS (2100 and 850) and I had had luck with other 3G devices (Samsung) .. is it just the torch?

BBs branded for AT&T do not have the T-Mo radio chips and frequencies and vice versa. I cannot speak for the Samsung.

T-Mobile: HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
