Using wifi as primary service whilst roaming

My daughter has a 9800 and is registered on a data plan with T-Mobile in the UK but is currently in France on a short term work contract.

She thought she could use whatsapp to chat with friends and family for free over wireless connection but she's not 100% sure this is now the case.

She has access to wifi both at her apartment & at work.

Because of her job she needs to keep her mobile network active.

Is there a way to check if her phone is defaulting to wifi whenever possible?

Apologies if this is a dumb question but I'm not a BB user!

It will always default to WiFi when WiFi is available.
