Default Removing locked speed dial

Please Login to Remove!

Boss just got a 9930 and while he likes it we can't find a way to change the 'w' speed dial to his work number instead of voicemail. In the past with these "locked" speed dial numbers we would scroll down and hit the enter key and it would allow us to select a new number from our address book. This no longer appears to be the case as it now just dials the number.

Anyone with one of the new devices had any luck modifiying those predefined letters? Why has RIM decided to lock more letters with each upgrade? How many different ways do we need to call voicemail, change profile, and lock a device?

Thanks for any help,
Dave

The speed dial for Voicemail is hard coded into the device and cannot be changed. All others are user-customizable, but not Voicemail.

Yup, since the 1st OS's, RIM decided to lock more keys each release. I'd also like to use certain keys for speed dials I want to add...but apparently, RIM decides what the user gets to use...not the user. Sort of like Apple, but not quite as bad.

Originally the 1/W was locked for voice mail. That's been that way for years. 1 is Voicemail. Since 1 is the W key, it has always been locked. This isn't new or news.

Some time ago they locked A and Q which I had previously used for speed dial. I wasn't happy, but learned how to survive without them.

What additional keys have been locked in each release besides those which have been locked for quite some time.

actually on the bold and bold 2 I was able to go to the w/1 key and click the enter key, it would bring up my address book and then I could select a name from my contacts (work) that I wanted to call, thus removing the voicemail option.

What happened after you rebooting the BlackBerry?

So far, only the "A" and then the "Q", which were subsequently locked in different releases. I can learn how to survive without any keys too...but I'd rather have all of my keys available for speed dials. I use them all. I'd like to be the one to decide which keys I'll use for what. BTW, in older releases, you were actually able to program the 1/W key for anything, and it would survive a reboot, until some software release took care of that too. We also lost a convenience key on this device over the 97xx. I know I can use 6 tools, but would still have liked that left side convenience key. I don't mind when they (and even expect them to) add features, but when they take them away, it bugs me.

Having been a Blackberry user since their inception, only to be "Androided" for the last two years, I'm happy to be back with Blackberry. However, it is this sort of thing that made me switch for a few years. Why, in God's name, would you "hard code" these keys. I don't WANT to get around the lack of an "A". I want to use that "A" for my speed dial that starts with "A". AND, "W" for a Voicemail? What pneumonic does that follow? (logic: What in the heck is the key for the Voicemail? Oh, my query starts with "W") Come on, RIM, don't be like Apple. I did not return for this.

I sent a very long detailed email regarding bugs from previous OS's, missing features, etc. about 6 weeks ago to them and thought I'd at least receive an automated response thanking me for my query. Nothing. I know they can't personally respond to every suggestion but it would have been nice to get some sort of reply (auto or personal). If anything, most people's suggestions are really there to help fix and promote their products.

Oh well...
