We upgraded BB9700 to BB9900 and encountered numerous problems. Battery runs out very fast. Signal fails abruptly. Call receiver will hear a nuisance water fall sounds. When a call is made from overseas, the call receiver will have tremendous difficulties to capture the communication.

When contacted TelCo SingTel, they claim, they are not aware of it. When requested to check the device, they say they have to check with RIM. It is more than 2 Months and SingTel has not come back to us, to give a solution.

When we browse through the Forum, all the above issues are recorded else where as well.

Its time for RIM to recall all the BB9900 devices and issue a reliable unit such as BB9700.

Hardly - and this is the 1st time I hear anything about a "nuisance waterfall sound..."

The only issue really plaguing the 99XX is the fact that some of them eventually brick and can't be recovered. Other than that, they are a big improvement over the previous generation of BlackBerry's. Are there nasty little things that bother me? Yes, but each device has its pet peeves.

I am not sure is it because of the different OS that I have in my unit that cause all the problems. You seem to be using OS 7.0.0.440 where as the unit that I have the OS is 7.0.0.261.

When I tried to obtain the latest software updates it indicates my device has the latest updates. However OS of mine is surely an earlier version than yours.

The device IMEI is 358567.04.126836.4

I love BB9900 because its Fonts are much clear, touch screen facilities etc. However the disturbances to call receipients is a big problem for me. I don't get any disturbance. But its my clients who gets the disturbance when I call them from the unit. It is not specific to the unit that I am using. We have 4 devices of BB9900. All 4 units have the same unique problem. When we call our clients, they hear a sound as I am standing close to a water fall.

Please advise whether I should upgarde the OS. If yes, where can I down load it?

I look forward your assistance to resolve this issue.

Ok - I understand now. Yes the 9900 has a very sensitive microphone and it transmits a lot of background noise. One solution is to purchase a noise cancellation Bluetooth headset/earbud. That's what I use and it works perfectly. Jawbone or Blue Parrot make excellent sets. Good luck.

BTW, I am using 7.1.074 now (leaked). I'l update my profile to reflect that now.

Steve I updated the OS to V7.0.0.590 and the noise issue is resolved and the sound is crystal clear.

If any one is using BB9900 with OS version lower than V7.0.0.590, please use the following link to upgrade the OS version. It helps to resolve almost all the issues related to BB9900.

That's pretty cool! I'm on 7.1 and I don't want to downgrade and lose my Mobile Hotspot...but thanks for the tip!

Hi, i notice that your carrier is SIngtel, but the link u directed us to is not under Singtel. Will it still work?

Yes. It will work fine.

Have you upgraded a BlackBerry before? If not, please read one of the threads at the top of the forum and follow the instructions to the letter.

use the headset or bluetooth to make or receive calls.

the draw back with touch screen is that while your talking, the touch-sensitive screen keeps scraping your hair or ear and it affects call because the incidental movements may open some menus...

so you use the 'hands-free' or a bluetooth device.

Sorry for the trouble guys, I downloaded the exe file to update it. Ran it but not too sure what to do next. Anyone can give me advice?
