Default Synching old inbox messages

Please Login to Remove!

I have just upgrated to Bold Touch, and it will not synch any email messages older than the date on which it was set up-- and I have messages in email side folders that I need to access when traveling. Am told this is normal (even tho it synchs old calendar items which are a lot less important than saved email msgs). Has anyone found a work-around for this?

That is correct. Email via BIS does not sync. RIM does have agreements with some ISPs, notably gmail and Yahoo allowing a sync, but those are somewhat problematic. I know gmail is for sure.

The only work around is you send all the old email to yourself, one message at the time.

If that mail is still on the server, you might try marking it as unread and see if it will get pushed, but I don't think that trick works with RIM.

Thanks -- what a ridiculous RIM shortcoming. I can access calendar items from a decade ago, but not not an email message from two weeks ago. Sending older messages to myself one at a time will take forever and result in my having all the messages in my inbox and sent folders on my desktop in need deleting. I'm a long time BB user but this kind of shortcoming is making the Iphone look good.

Try setting it up as IMAP and see if that works.

It has always worked that way. If you are on BES, then the Admin can set it up so that a certain number will come over.

I think the iPhone is the same way if you set up as POP.

If you have your email account in question setup as IMAP you can fool the system into thinking old messages are new.

This works with my Mac and my .Mac email account. I delete the message on my Mac in Mail.app. Then I go into the trash and mark the message as unread. Finally I move it back to my inbox, still unread. After a short delay the system picks it up as a new message and sends it to my BlackBerry. The time received is no longer the original time of receipt but at least I have the message back.
