Hello, I have a Bold 9900 on Version 7.0.0 Bundle 1465

I only got the handset today but when i make a call the other person can hear me okayish but they sound very crackly and muffled.

This only happens when i'm using the handset, on loudspeaker it's absolutely perfect which makes me very curious as to why this may be happening.

I have tried a hard reset etc and there's nothing else wrong with the phone.

Any ideas?

How many calls from how many different sources have you had so far today since you got the device?

If you play a media file, then from the media player open the menu and select Activate Handset and listen on the handset speaker, do you hear the same bad quality?

I've made about 4-5 calls today and a couple have been fine but the others just crackly. I kept testing 202 which is 02's number to check balance etc and its very hit and miss.

Thanks for that, i've just tried a media file (music) and then activated the handset and i still hear the same bad quality unfortunately, any ideas?

I was thinking that if the media file audio sounded ok, then it would indicate the problem was with the signal. But that doesn't appear to be the case.

My only other thought is there is a hearing aid compatibility setting in options. I believe it is off by default, and I doubt it would be the problem. But might as well look. If it is on, set it to off and test.

Otherwise, I would return it for an exchange.

Just checked, it's off and for one song it's fine but i checked another and it's still an issue many thanks for your help

I've updated to Bundle 2406 v7.0.0.585 and the problem now seems to of gone away? Weird..

Let's hope. The fact that it was intermittent is what causes me to doubt.

I thought about suggesting an upgrade or downgrade to see if it would make a difference, but you shouldn't have to mess around like that when the device is brand new.

I know, i bought the phone off a friend but its been fine before all of this and unfortunately he has no paperwork for the phone so hopefully the update keeps the issue at bay, weird though but thanks a lot. Think i'll update to 7.1 as well.
