Interesting 'Uncaught Exception' Error
 

Has anyone else gotten an 'Uncaught exception: at least one phrase must be provided' error message after rebooting? I'm on a Verizon Bold 9930 running 7.1.0.163/5.1.0.137 as the OS.

I have seen "uncaught exception" errors before, but not the one you described above...
How often do you reboot the devices? Have you thought about rebooting every day?

I only see it when I reboot the phone. Soft or hard reset, it comes up during the reboot. I never see it again, but its worrisome.

I'm also having trouble with getting the BB to come out of sleep cleanly. Maybe they're related...hmmm.

I think it has something to do with either a corrupt OS, or a 3rd part app. Are there any apps installed?

The most used apps I have are Twitter, Facebook, UberSocial, Foursquare, GoogleVoice,BeWeather, Pandora, BB Travel. I have Vlingo (free full version from BB) and Google Voice running. On occasion, I use PatternLock Pro to lock my berry. The only sideloaded apps are Starbucks and Amazon.

The wake from sleep issue and pop up seemed to come after I loaded (and have uninstalled) the Advanced LED app from App World. The wake from sleep issue is the biggest PIA right now. I can't tell you how many times I stare at a lit-up button, the screen backlight on and NOTHING! I put it back into the holster for 30 seconds and 9 out of 10 times it opens. Quite frustrating.

OK. DM had a newer OS version listed, so I loaded that on. Seems that took care of the uncaught exceptions, but I'm still having the random hangs from sleep. The keyboard backlight is on, the screen is powered on and not showing anything.

Has anyone seen that happen before? Thanks! :)

You should check the amout of free memory. Maybe too many Apps. Causes a lot of weird issues.

Black screen, but if you hold it to the side- you can see that the screen is on. If I soft reset it- nothing happens, still black/blank screen. Hard reset fixes it 90% of the time. I've had to do 2 hard resets in a row to get it back. I'm up to three right now and nothing. It would figure that I'm away from home, too.

Free memory doesn't seem to be an issue. I'll post the number if the screen ever comes back. I am at my wits end right now.

Sounds like it could be the ribbon cable coming off the screen to the board...if the 9900 is the same as the 9700 I just fixed. It is now sounding to me like hardware though...

Thanks Steve! I guess I'll find a VZW store tomorrow and have hem send me a replacement. It's either that or switch back to my old Droid X.
