Default blackberry 7290 sims card

Please Login to Remove!

OK, I found a newer blackberry, a 7290, does anyone know if it will accept a cingular 64K Smartchip? I have a nokia 6102 with this chip in it. Hopefully I can put it in the blackberry, if anyone can tell me if the 7290 will accept this card.

If the BB is an AT&T branded BB it should work just fine.

Is this the same question as this post?

6820

Default 7290 and Mobal Communications SIM Card

I purchasd an unlocked 7290 on ebay last week - system arrived and appears functional at least as a pda. Got a world sim card from mobal - as I intend to use this when I travel outside the USA and I currently have Verizon which does not support GSM

When I installed the SIM - I am able to see the Cingular and T Mobile network but I get an error message "Data Connection Refused"

What I have been able to deduce is this - SInce Mobal doees not have a data plan ( They charge only by the minute) This message is not going to stop phone calls only browser requests. Havent tried to make a phone call as the SIM gives me a UK number. Anyone have any experience with MOBAL and Blackberry especially the 7290. I purchase another phone from Mobal which according to posters on Cruise Critic works super in europe but I wanted something of better quality than the Siemens A70 hence the blackberry.

Does any one know if MOBAL supports internet or is there some way to get internet browsing - dont care if I can make phone calls in the US

Thanks in advance

You need a specific Blackberry Data Plan from your carrier. I've never heard of the carrier you are referring to so I can't say for sure if they have blackberrys/plans. If this is a prepaid service and they don't offer Blackberry Data Plans then you will have to get their apn settings and add them to the TCP settings under Options >Advanced Options >TCP (if they have that data service at all.) Even if you get TCP working you won't get the built in BB Browser so you'll need to install Opera Mini (www.operamini.com.) That's the best you can do.

I downloaded Opera but since I dont have an account I doubt it is going to work. Here is a question though - I have a wireless router on my network - Can I assign an IP address to the Blackberry and surf at home using my network??

Like I said - browser would be nice but not esential as long as the pnone works. If I can get mycompany to pay for the BB and account - I might just sign up with AT&T or T Mobile. Right now they are paying for my Verizon phone as they went away from pagers

Thanks again

Kind of in the same boat here....trying to get my email on my Blackberry 7290 but I'm using an AT&T prepaid sim card. What exactly do I need to do to get my email from gmail, yahoo, or even my personal domain. I know it would be easier with a regular plan from my carrier but I don't really want to be locked into a contract right now. The pick-your-plan deal is working out just fine...but I would like to get my email! Thanks for all your help!

You don't get BB services with Prepaid plans. You may be able to use the GMail app to retrieve your Gmail but that's about it.
