Default Unknown Icon When Keyboard Locked - 06-10-2005, 08:32 PM

When I lock my 7750 (BES/4.0) an icon appears at the top left. It looks like a sticky note with the bottom right corner turned up, and there is a number 1 in the middle. There is also a number to the left of the icon that changes. Right now it is a 4. What is this icon? It is only there when the keyboard is locked.

I cannot find it described anywhere in the documentation.

Any ideas?

Unread pins? Is that something for real? I do have the envelope when there is unread mail. That I get... this icon only shows when the keyboard is locked. It is just above the battery status indicator.

phaser63 I have the exact same thing on my 7230. See this, which I posted yesterday, although unfortunately noone's stated if they know anything about it.

Annoying 'fault' isn't it?

Got rid of that annoying icon, for now. I determined that it is some kind of orphaned reminder. There are times when I have 2 or more reminders that come up at once, but I only see one, and the other is lost (I never have the chance to select it), keeping the counter at a level to remind me to check the reminder, but of course, there is no way to do that.

So, I went into Outlook and cleared all the reminders for meetings and tasks. I used the By Category view of my calendar/tasks, and I added a column for the Reminder indicator (right click on the column heading and choose Field Selector), Synched with the Blackberry. Then, I reset my blackberry by removing the battery, waiting 30 seconds, and putting it back in. Then, on the next synch after I powered up BB, the icon was gone. No more orphaned reminders. Of course, no more reminders, but I guess that is a small price to pay to get rid of the minor annoyances.

switched the calendar back to the regular view. I used the other view simply to clear away all the reminders that were there. In effect, all of my reminders were cleared at that point, and after I pulled the battery on the BB, they orphans were cleared. I did not go back and re-enable all the reminders I shut off for individual appointments. But, as new appointments were made, I enabaled new reminders for them.

What I found was this. There were times when I would get 2 (or more) reminders at the same time. I am often double booked for my time. When this happened, BB was really slow to display the reminders. If I did not wait to see all the reminders from the home screen (I opened mail, or tasks before the reminder was shown), the reminders I did not view got orphaned. So, for example, 2 reminders indicated by BB, viewed 1, but then went to mail, the second reminder was orphaned, and the reminder icon could not be cleared, except by using what I have already described.

So now I wait patiently until BB shows me all the reminders. It can take up to 2 minutes for that, by the way. Except for recurring meetings, I am all caught up on the reminders I need to have.

Any chance this is the push weather icon? Or some other push service?

I had the push weather for a while and when it would update it would have a number next to, what looked like the face of a watch.
