Default PIN and IMEI In Use?

Please Login to Remove!

I just got an unlocked Pearl. Now, I'm receiving someone else's email in my Messages area! When I try to register my own email, it indicates the PIN and IMEI are already in use. I don't even really want my email in the Messages area, would prefer to use Gmail's app instead - but I don't want to get the other person's email!

Any advice on how to resolve this issue?

You obviously bought it used. You must have either the previous owner "release" the PIN and IMEI from their carrier, or you must convince that carrier to do so.

Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ

Please make sure you leave appropriate feedback for the seller if you bought it off Ebay.

I believe the person you bought it from has to release the PIN/IMEI with their carrier for you to set up your own emial.

Thanks for the help - I'm now trying to contact the prior owner through what I believe is their email address. I did buy it through a 3rd party on eBay who is being of little help.

Should I not be able to contact them, any idea on how I can figure out who the carrier was?

The carrier is the one it was branded to, normally. Was your BB "unlocked" when you purchased it, or do you know?

Honestly, you probably need to get your money back and leave negative feedback for the seller. So many people sell BBs on Ebay who have no idea what they are selling, and then just say "I didn't know".

I would start threatening to send some nasty email out via their username...that might get their attention. You might even find out the device is stolen and then you can really have some fun with the "seller"

eh, I don't recommend that. EBay and PayPal have good seller rating systems, in this case, that will do more to rectify the posters' problem, my opinion.

How do I find out what the email address is that is being directed? I don't seem to be able to send email OUT with the address (I get a message saying that message services aren't configured). On the email's I'm receiving, I don't see the TO: line.

I'd like to just try to email the person!

It was unlocked when I purchased it - it says SunCom on the splash screens, though - I guess that may be the prior carrier?

SunComm, it likely is, unless the previous owner had it unlocked and was using on another carrier (say ATT or TMo or whatever.

I gave the best advice, return it.

You can't use it until you setup your email (i.e. get the PIN and IMEI released from the other user, as stated above).

If you must email the person, use your computer.

Menu>options>Advanced>Service Books

But I think you should go with JC's recommendations. Sorry about your issues with it. At least you know what questions to ask and things to check next time.

Good luck!

Do you know which service book setting this would be? I don't see one which indicates an email address?

If you don't see a service book (as described by thatzmister2u) with an "@" symbol, there is no service book that, then. I don't know why you want the service book for someone else's email.

I thought I could use that to ID the email address and then email the person? There isn't an entry that has a name that looks like an email address.

Oh well, I'm going to contact SunCom to see what they can do and I guess then return it if I can't get resolution through that method. Too bad, lesson learned.

Good luck with it all, I know it's a hassle.

Before buying another off Ebay, be sure to read the link I sent you above. And, just to let you know, there are some good deals on the Buy Sell section of this board.

I know on my pearl, there are two easy ways to find this out.

1) Just highlight the email Icon, without clicking on it. The email address is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

or 2) Click on the email icon, and it is branded across the screen near the top.

The user does not have the service book, therefore they won't have the message icon either.

I believe the person you bought it from has to release the PIN/IMEI with their carrier for you to set up your own emial.

Hello,

I was also in same situation last week. I bought a 8100 from ebay and tried to setup my account with o2. But it said its pin is locked. i tried to contact its previous user but no success. then some one told me about ECD wolverhampton. I contact them and explain my situation. They asked my pin and imeie and within 15 minutes my pin was released.
I am so happy..i can access my emails on my 8100 now.
you can contact them at 01902-452888.

Thanks.
