I'm running a bb of my telus mobility and in order to use a bb, you must have a data plan. Whereaes for Rogers you don't need a data plan to run the bb, you can use it for phone. I asked the telus rep why and she said it's because you can use functions such as web browsing and even email without being on a data plan because the bb allows that. So people were abusing that and being able to use email and wap browsing without being on a plan.
mark.hogan - although I am normally the one who suggests doing searches, can you provide any links that explain how to do this (get e-mail without paying for a BlackBerry Data Plan)?
I shoulda been more descriptive. To the best of my understanding there is no way to get service without the plan anymore. I think there was limited use of the data service but no push email, but the carriers fixed this. Now I think its only a phone without the bb service.
I'm not a bb pro, I think this is right though...if not I'll stand corrected.
Thanks Guys, I couldn't quite figure out how you could get push email without a data plan. I asked the rep, but she seemed hesitant to talk about it. She did mention that people did managed to somehow get email and surf. If she was making this up, i don't know.
