Default Blackberry synchronization

Please Login to Remove!

My company has a Goodlink server and is thinking of getting a BES as well.

I am using Good now but used a Blackberry for the past few years. I liked it except that I had to sync contacts through desktop manager. I believe this was because they were public folder contacts in Exchange, not sure I wasn't the admin. My question is how does Blackberry measure up with Good in terms installing and syncing data and updating clients. Good does this all OTA and its pretty easy. Is a BES capable of the same thing. I want to avoid any installs on users workstations and have everything OTA.

Yes, the latest versions of BES all provide full wireless OTA sync of PIM functions as well as message delivery.

No desktop software is required on the end user workstation at all.

Maybe so, but it has nothing to do with the questions being addressed in this topic.

You mention public folder contacts. I'm not sure there is a direct way to do this (could be wrong) but I think I recall reading of workarounds on BBF.

Thanks alot for the reply. One more question is the install and update of the Blackberry handheld software capable of being down over the air as well.

How realistic is it for me to think the user with never have to use the cable unless they need to install a 3rd party app that requires it.

No, you can't update the handheld OS OTA yet. Probably in a future version of BES and heldheld software.

It's very realistic. None of our users have Desktop Manager. Everything is done OTA, including third-party software install.

All of our users are local. If they need a handheld OS update, they just bring their device to the IT department and we do it for them.
