Default Blackberry Steal All USB Ports?

Please Login to Remove!

On my office desktop, running XP, why does this happen:

When I plug in my BB 8310 in mass storage mode it is immediately assigned and recognized as removeable disk E:. While plugged in, no USB flash drive will be recognized via any of my other USB ports.

Even after removal of the BB, the USB ports do not allow the flash drives to be recognized.

If I restart the PC, all is back to normal and flash drives are recognized, UNTIL I again hook up the BB.

Is there a setting somewhere? Why is this happening? Thanks.

Are your Flash drives also set to use drive letter E: ?
Sounds like you have a drive letter conflict.

I would try assigning some unique drive letter assignments to all of your devices just to be sure.

How do you assign drive letters? I thought the OS did this randomly as they are plugged in to any USB. First E, then next avail letter, etc. I wouldn't mind a quick lesson on how to specify the available drive letters to each port.

Right click on "my computer", hit "manage" and over to the left toward the bottom is "disk management"

You might have to drag that window and make it bigger, but that'll show if what's being plugged in is being recognized and you can give it "F" or "G" or even "Z". Just right click on it and hit "change drive letter"

Do you already have something mapped as F

XP will assign letters from D: upwards until it encounters a drive and then stops.

I have a network drive mapped as F:. My Berry will grab E:, if I plug in a flash drive, it gets no letter until I disconnects the network drive, then the flash drive gets F:

Don't have anything mapped as F. If I've plugged the BB in, it gets F. Even when unplugged and F no longer assigned, the flash drive is not recognized when I plug it in, UNLESS I restart the machine first.

I tried flash drive (F. Changed letter to (J), and plugged in BB. BB got drive (E. Both were working. Safely removed J and plugged it back in....nothing. Safely removed BB. Later, tried flash drive again....nothing. It seems once BB is connected by itself, no other flash drive will work afterward until PC restarted!
