Default Rogers Wireless new $15 BB plan

Please Login to Remove!

I was lurking over at Howard Forums and employees who attended the Rogers Q4 party posted that Rogers will be offering a new $15 BlackBerry data pack for unlimited Email, Pinning and BlackBerry Messenger but no data for wireless web surfing starting November 1. Does anyone here know if this is true?

at least it's a start.

equivalent to T-Mobile's $10 BIS email-only add-on. I hope this is true as it signals that Rogers is going in the direction of recognizing the Consumer BB market.

I heard today that it's in response to a forthcoming Bell Mobility plan. I'm curious now if Rogers will also release new BlackBerry data rates that include data for using the browser as their $15 plan doesn't include browser usage.

If you can use GMAIL Mobile instead of BlackBerry Mail, there is an even cheaper option:
HOWTO: Use BlackBerry on Rogers $5 Mobile Internet Plan

People who only want SMS and JiveTalk/Opera Mini can work with a $5 Rogers non-BlackBerry plan, instead of a $40 Rogers BlackBerry plan. This practice of using non-BlackBerry plans on consumer BlackBerries starting to get popular in certain non-business circles, for excellent QWERTY keyboard texting/chatting/generic 3rd party app data...

(And yes -- GMAIL Mobile works on $5 Rogers plan on BlackBerry. And JiveTalk. And Opera Mini.)

I was lurking at the Rogers Wireless forum over at Howard Forums & people have posted that the $15 email only plan is now listed on the Rogers website. Apparently it's only for BlackBerry Pearl users which sucks! It also offers absolutely no data which really sucks!! Here's the link for those who want to check it out:

BlackBerry Personal Email

How is it that Rogers can enforce that only BlackBerry Pearl users get access to this plan? Do they check the IMEI of the BlackBerry being used to make sure a non Pearl user doesn't have this plan added to their account?

its a try but if you go online and do switch phone
add a imei number for pearl - get it from a friend or somewhere (lol)
and then it might let you add that plan...

once the plan is added, switch it back to ur regular berry...
i dunno, its a thought

Perhaps they have crippled data usage so if people like the email function and want to get onto the browser they'll be forced to upgrade to one of Rogers very expensive data plans. I dunno.

It's promising to see a carrier other than T-Mo U.S. offer this type of an email-only plan. My wife is a primary candidate for such a plan. She really doesn't need a >$20/mo service that includes TCP/IP data that she will never use/need. Email-only is perfect for her needs. I wish AT&T Mobility offered a plan like this similar to Rogers Wireless and T-Mo.

Wirelessly posted (Mandizzle's Curve: BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

A friend of mine was saying she's using the $15 bis plan on her Curve in B.C. Anyone here in Ontario using it on their Curve?

I want to scrap my data plan for this BIS only plan. Just want to make sure it will work.

I'm also curious to hear if anyone in Ontario has gotten this plan with their Curve?

I may call Rogers today and see if I can add it, maybe a little complaining will help considering they are being more accommodating to Pearl users, and not us non business consumer users of the Curve or 8800 for that matter.

Erik-

Hi,

I am using the $7 unlimited data plan with my Pearl (plus my voice plan) - the Curve should really be no different. There are articles by Mark and John that indicate to use Opera Mini, GMAIL Mobile etc, so that you can browse etc. But the new $7 unlimited data plan works fine in ON.

They WILL tell you that the data will NOT work by switching to a non-BB plan, I just indicated that I will be using another phone that I have to surf the net - got it switched, took me some configuring - thanks to Mark Rejhon and John Clark for their guidance - read their articles, a wealth of info, and I am gully functional.
