Question Outlook Address Book Sync?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm loving my 8310. It's AWESOME!

When I'm syncing Outlook, I get an Intellisync error at the end:

"There was a total of 1 record(s) skipped during the synchronization as summarized below:

Address Book: Device - 0, Microsoft Outlook - 1

Please check the synchronization log for more details."

It's not a big deal, but it is annoying. When I look at the synchronization log, I don't see anything that would point to a problem, not that I'd actually know what to be looking for.

So, somehow I have 1 contact in Outlook that's not being synced. I went through ALL my contacts (1,000+) and scrubbed a few old ones that looked funky, but still have this problem.

Any idea on how to identify and root out the offender?

I had one with a Mr. in there and that was the culprit. Went name by name until I found the one missing. Don't recommend that method with 1,000 names though.

Often it is an entry that has nothing in either First, Last or Company name fields. MS Outlook does not make that requirement, but BB does, and if ALL three of those fields are blank, that contact will not sync.

So, in the sync log, where it says, Skip "<Key Fields Empty>", that these 3 fields would be dem dere "Key Fields"? Thanks.

You can open your Outlook contacts up in full view (I think that is the term to look for? Spreadsheet view?), and then sort them by firstname, lastname and company, and see which it is... much quicker.

BINGO!!! I actually found an elegant way. I exported my Contacts in Excel format, and then started sorting through them. Based on monkeypaw's experience with the Mr. in salutation, I started there and I found one contact where the name had somehow wound up in the Title field, leaving the First, Last AND Company name fields BLANK!

Problem solved.

Thanks!!!

Oh? Cool!

I knew it was a fairy tale thing somehow, remembered it vaguely, and had to google it. Haha.
