Default Question about Email Prioritizing.

Please Login to Remove!

I picked up my VW Pearl on Wednesday and have spent the last two days getting to know the in's and out's of the BB device in general. These boards have been immensely helpful as have other sites.

I have been left with a question about email addresses.

I have a personal address setup that pulls in emails periodically. This address is my bulk work address and receives a ton of emails. Because I am not willing to risk loosing emails to a spam filter I just tag spam and review it later.

With the BB I would prefer to put a spam filter in-line. I have choosen to approach this by forwarding my email to a gmail account then reforwarding that email to a VW BB push address. This means no waiting on the emails and google's rock-solid spam filters.

Now the trick is that I would like to keep my main email address as the alias that shows when sending emails... I don't want anyone to see the useless [email address].

Is there an easy way that I could keep both accounts on the phone but simply toggle my personal email so that it does not receive mail? I think this would be my best solution.

Please let me know if I need to clarify.

Thanks!

Jason

I was able to solve this myself.

I thought that the vzw online account was the online management people had referred to in previous posts. I did not realize there was a blackberry.net/go/vzw account to manage email. Everything is now in proper working order.

Keep in mind that it isn't a good idea to use the blackberry/carrier email address.

First of all, it is unfiltered which means you will likely get more spam that you want once the address gets out there.

Second, it can ONLY be viewed on the BB. If email goes down, so does that address. Email cannot be retrieved to that account once it is lost, deleted, etc.

And 3rd, you do not own or control that address. Your carrier can decide to change it at any time, a la Cingular going to ATT. If you leave Verizon, you can't take that address with you. It just goes away into the ether world. I personally do like to use an email address that I do not control/own.

Just my five cents worth.

I appreciate the thoughts. The reason I'm using the VZW address is specifically for the purpose of using Google's spam filter. I can't afford to spam block my day-to-day email address but I wanted one prior to my BB.

What I ended up doing was forwarding my main email address to Gmail, then reforwarding that filtered mail to the VZW address, which then pushes it to the phone.

In the end my phone gets pushed well filtered email and I still get everything on my desktop. I even kept my imap'd main account live in the background on the BB just in case the other goes down. I just set a filter on that acct to keep anything from reaching the BB.

I'm happy with the results, although I'm sure anyone reading this is shaking their head at this point

I really do not see the purpose in the carrier email address other than to test the functioning of my device. Especially with the demise of the BWC.

On my end the only real benefit to the carrier account is the push email. Otherwise I would just set up the BB to snag straight out of Gmail.

I have an IMAP work email (so no push) and that doesn't have any forwarding function too bad

I want my IMAPworkemail to get pushed to my device. So I was wondering if there's like an email service that will fetch emails as soon as it gets to my IMAPworkemail server and filters those emails and will only forward to my device if it meets certain criteria.

IMAPserver(no forwarding) > mail service fetches emails from the left > filters (i.e. emails from boss) and sends to my BB to the right
