Because I was able to quickly get a good answer for blackberry forensics (the last thread I posted), I've been tasked to find another answer. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Anyways, some employees have 8800 and 8830 series Blackberries, which include a button on the side for voice-activated dialing. Unfortunately, when the device is locked, even if "allow outgoing calls while locked" is enabled, you can't dial out with that feature.

I tried searching the documentation, the Web, and our Big Book of BES Policies, but I couldn't find anything that links voice-activated dialing.

Anybody know whether or not this is possible?

That key is referred to as the "convenience key". It is defaulted as "voice dialing" on the models you have mentions, on the 8703 it is defaulted as "profiles". That key could be set to open messages, the browser, etc.

Do you want to make a call with the device locked using the keypad? I am not sure if that is possible due to they password may need the number keys to unlock the device.

The idea is that they want to make life easier for somebody who's driving. It would be nice if they could dial a number without having to key in a number or their password.

It might not work with the convenience key but my 8300 certainly dials out voice-activated via bluetooth when it's locked. If you don't want to dial while driving for safety reasons, why would you not want to use a headset (or bluetooth speaker) for driving?
