Default Is BBSpell Out of Business? 8800 Spell

Please Login to Remove!

I originally purchased BBSpell from SomeDevelopers for my Blackberry 8700.

Then I bought a Blackberry 8800.

I contacted the company at that point and they sent me a Beta version of BBSpell for the 8800, and said a new release would be "out soon" for the 8800.

That was in June. Since then, there's been no response from customer support, and the 8800 gives me an error message:

"java.io.IOException Invalid URL parameter"?

Does anyone know anything about them or this situation?

I also get: "java.io.IOException Open tunnel - failure"?

I would imagine that since RIM started building their own spell check in to BlackBerry devices it has "spelled" the end for bbspell

I would think there's a decent installed base to support?

Agreed, but with no longevity. Think about it - the last devices with no built in spell check will be hitting the end of their hardware warranties now, so I can't see it lasting.

I would think it would get merged into another company so they collect the renewals on the installed licenses. Blackberry themselves directed me to a different third party vendor, which still sells spell checking for earlier models.

If BBSpell won't work for you, take a look at LexSpell. Costs $10 but works great. Runs from the BB itself so it is much quicker than a server based solution.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

With my older 8700g I first used LexSpell, which was good. Then I started using Empower InstaSpell which I preferred. It has inline spelling which I appreciated.
