The wife bought me the new 8130 for my birthday and it should be here on Monday. I currently have the 8703e.

I'm thinking ahead to when I have to set up my new 8130. Is there an easy way to transfer all my contacts, calendar stuff, etc to the new BB?? If I backup my current 8703e using Desktop Manager, can I transfer it to the 8130 also using Desktop Manager?? How about other programs I have on the 8703e? Will they transfer over as well or do I need to start over? (things like Yahoo! Go, chronograph, Empower, etc)

hey there - im thinking about doing the same thing and moving from the 8703e to the new pearl.

as far as transferring contacts, etc., if you have BES then it automatically will do that when you set up BES on the new blackberry. if you have BIS, then you're going to have to manually transfer it. i usually every week or two transfer all my items to my home computer's outlook (which i never use, just have it there for these sync purposes). if you transfer your stuff to outlook (others programs may work, this is the only one im familiar with) then they will permanently be there, and then when you get the new BB you can use desktop manager to just upload them up to your new one! shouldn't be too difficult.

i don't use your other programs so im not sure, but my guess is you will have to reinstall them (OTA) on your new BB - usually you cannot transfer programs to the best of my knowledge.

I don't have BES, just the BIS.

Use the Switch Device wizard. It will bring over you data and third party software.

I wonder if the switch device wizard will work. I have not had any luck getting any software to load from the desktop manager. I have had to load all applications from the phones browser.
I think the problem may be that the desktop for the 8130 with 4.3 OS dose not recognize software not developed specifically for the 8130.

Think you are going to like the new 8130. I had the world phone, but used the 7103e previously...and just couldn't get into the full keyboard again.

Love the new Pearl, small, sleek, camera, and suretype works very well. Verizon has a winner with this one (finally!)
