I've just installed the new BDM 4.3 download from RIM.

Works fine:

-Managing my media
-Detecting my different phones
-Syncing my add-ins (MiniSafe)
-Application loader (and java loader)


DOESN'T WORK:

-configuring Outlook sync (for calendar, tasks, notes, contacts/address book)

When I click one of the the items in Configure Synch, and then choose the sync method, I get a runtime error telling me "th application's section is not file-based" then it forces me to pick a profile, and choose some sort of file "database file for % connector" but I have no idea what I should be picking.

Is this just a problem with 4.3, or am I missing something??

It's a known issue with Desktop Manager 4.3. I don't get the error but Outlook isn't even in the list of apps to sync with.

It also gives errors during OS loads.

I'm not impressed. I recommend continuing to use 4.2 SP2.

To echo above, use 4.2 for now until the bugs are worked out.

They never even asked if I had Outlook! I'll cancel and go tget 4.2 sp2 - formatted pc today... thanks

I recently downloaded 4.3. Everything seems to be working fine, but....how do you get it sync with yahoo instead of Outlook. When I try to configure it only gives me Outlook as an option.

Would it be somewhere in the data settings?

Under Configuration > Configure Sync:

highlight your Address Book or whichever application, and click CHOOSE.

Scroll down to Yahoo! and select > OK, etc.

I don't have an option for Yahoo. Only Outlook

Ok, I hear you. ALL of the other choices (Act, Lotus, Yahoo) are missing?

Are you on a BES system?

If not, I would recommend uninstalling DM 4.3 and go back to 4.2 SP2.

If I just got the new Pearl 8130 (Verizon), can I get rid of this 4.3 system on both the BBerry and install 4.2 on it and my desktop? Or would that wreak major havoc? Could I use the 4.2 system on the desktop with the 4.3 on my BlackBerry? This 4.3 system is not compatible with anything, and I am unable to download many applications (which is really frustrating).

Thanks for that link. Looks like I'll have to play the waiting game there, too, as the Pearl 8130 is not listed under "devices" to select when initiating the download. This is the last time I ever buy a "new" product - owning this new device has been a nightmare and a half in terms of its alleged capabilities.

You can uninstall the Desktop Manager 4.3 and install 4.2. However, you can't put any older 4.2 OS on the handheld itself as it doesn't exist. Also, the handheld OS installation Package hasn't been released by Verizon yet so you probably won't be able to install any 3rd party apps using Desktop Manager.

You are correct. Many of the apps out there for the Pearl won't work on the new Pearls with OS 4.3. 4.3 was a major OS update and many things have changed.

OK..this may sound stupid..but won't be the first time!! I have a friend with a Verizon 8130, that wants to delete some of the vendor themes, and unlock and try whatever else is available. Doesn't he need to install the phones OS (4.3.0.60) on his computer to be able to modify the Blackberry.alx file? I tried browsing to the same folders as I do for my 8100 (P. files>Com. files>RIM>Shared>etc.) but Shared folder was not there. If he does need to do this, and Verizon has not released the OS yet - is there any other way to install it on his PC?

You'll have to wait for Verizon (or another carrier) to release the OS for download. Until then, no unlocked vendor themes.

Thanks John - that was quick!! Another question: It seems like some people with 8130's can installed 3rd party themes, and some can not. Do you think Desktop Manager could have something to do with this? Would d'grading to 4.2SP2 help?

I just received the Pearl 8130. Installed the software with updates (4.3). It sync'd perfectly with my Outlook contacts, but completely ignores my request to sync with my calendar. What gives? Is anyone else having problems specifically with Outlook Calendar? Anyone have any suggestions?

I had this issue with my new Pearl 2. If I installed DM 4.3 then it connected fine to my Blackberry but Outlook was not available as a sync option. If I installed DM 4.3 SP2 then it wouldn't recognise my Pearl and just put up the "Found New Hardware Wizard".

The solution I came up with is a bit fiddly:

1) Install DM 4.3.

2) Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\ and copy the whole "Research In Motion" folder from here to another location (eg. My Documents)

3) Uninstall DM 4.3

4) Install DM 4.2 SP 2

5) Plug in your Blackberry. When the "Found New Hardware" wizard comes up, tell it that you want to specify a location and use the RimUsbNT.inf driver in the Research In Motion\USB Drivers folder you copied.

6) Your Pearl should now be recognised and you can sync with Outlook.

I have a blackberry pearl with Verizon and I use Outlook 2007. I am also experiencing the problem where it seems to skip the calendar sync. It works fine with the address book. I have tried several times to uninstall Blackberry Desktop software 4.3 and installed 4.2 P2 and the same problem has occurred.

I have not checked the log, because I think it will be blank. I also have set up some recurring appointments for 2008, so I don't know if that's the problem. Can anyone provide some assistance?

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!! I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a software issue with the latest Desktop Manager and the 8130. I spent 4 hours on the phone over 2 days with VZW and RIM and finally got it figured out. I could not sync my contacts at all. The work around that I was given to allow me to do it is as follows.

Open up Options-- Advanced Options -- Service Book and then delete any e-mail address followed by "CICAL"

Once these were deleted, I was able to sync my calendar.

Apparently RIM now knows about this issue and will hopefully work on a permanent fix.
