Question Can you use the 8310 or 8820 as a modem?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Just wondering if one can use the 8310 or the 8820 as a modem for the laptop?

We can do this now with the Nokia e62 but we'd like to move back to the blackberry.

If we can use either as a modem, would we need another service plan to make that happen or do we simply connect a cable from the phone to the laptop?

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
eagle

Yes, it can be done. Yes, you'll need a tethering plan from AT&T.

Thanks John.

We have the Blackberry Personal now at $29.99. With the tether capability, it looks like it jumps to $49.99.

Found the info on tethered modem use at the bb site:

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

The cable should be a standard USB cable.

This service has worked very well for me:

Brain Murmurs - Products

The Pulse software allows for dialup via bluetooth. Very nice to be able to use the phone as modem without the cable.

Thanks shaun.

Looking at the their website, it appears that the 8800 and 8310 are not supported at this time:

They are not supported, but I have had it working between an 8310 and my MacBook.

I had purchased the app initially for my 8700c.
