Default Transitioning From Desktop To BES Procedures Or Recommendations

Please Login to Remove!

We are in the process of implementing BB's in our company. As part of the implementation we will also be installing BES as well. Some of our executives want to purchase their BB 7250's now to replace outdate and broken Cell Phones and PDA's.

My question is if executive A goes to Verizon and purchases his 7250 and contracts for his Voice and Unlimited Data Access can he use the BB Desktop Software on his PC now to interface to his Outlook 2003 PIM and then later when we install BES switch him to BES system and bring him under the policies and features of BES?

I suggest you install the desktop manager as if they have BES or you will have to reinstall it later. I don't think the BIS cares...

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. However it does raise another question for me which is - for all of the users with a BB and who will be on the BES (and we will be running MS Exchange 2003) will I be installing the desktop manager on each of their workstations even with BES to link their BB to their Outlook 2003 to our corporate Exchange Server and BES?

Yes, they will adjust some of their BES settings via desktop manager and it is part of the activation process. You can activate OTA but there are problems...

If you are deploying a 4.0 based solution, you don't need to give them the desktop manager to do the activation, you can just do a Wireless Activation as well.

The only problems I've had were caused by weak signal.
