Default Nextel Split Billing for 7520

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, I'm starting to get desperate! I have been going through the gauntlet with Nextel to figure out if it is POSSIBLE to do this.

My corperate phone number was moved to my blackberry phone.
I want to add DATA service to the phone and have it billed to me seperatly.

I have read that a few people are doing this, or maybe the reverse of this. Can anyone that has done this successfully give me any pointers on what I have to ask for?

Gotta love my agency, the people who truly don't need blackberries get them, but those that do, have to try to get them on their own.

Thanks!

Yes, you can do split billing with Nextel. I am doing it right now because the phone portion is paid for by the agency I work for and the data plan is being paid off of a grant.

The key is to not talk to regular Nextel customer support. Tell them you want to talk to a supervisor and don't take no for an answer. They usually want to try and "help" you, be persistant and insist on a supervisor or you will get them either telling you it can't be done, or having to go through everything twice.

The other thing you can do is get with the rep for your company. He/she can help you get it set up.

You can split bill the BB plan and the phone portion in any way. The phone can be billed to you, the BB to the company, or the other way around.

Hmmm. I used to work with customer care and account modifications, and I think that this is definantly not handled by either. Usually, it's one phone and one sim card associated with one phone number associated with one individual or company.. not having one phone and sim card be on two accounts... I know in customer care, there are multiple ways to split up the bill, but splitting up the FEATURES on ONE phone line into two accounts isn't something normally done by care. The best we do have one main line on one account and one alternate line on another account, but have both of those be associated with one phone... I'm not sure which department takes care of this yet. If you are in customer care, they might think you are talking about a hierarchy... which you aren't...

*thinks a bit*
I *think* what they would have to do is set it up so that, on your individual account, there is your normal priceplan without blackberry service, and on the corporate account, using the same sim id, there is another user with the same sim id on a data only priceplan that has the data features, and associate the two accounts with each other as related accounts... though I don't know for sure if this is how they do this, or which departments would be able to do that...

Not sure exactly how they did it internally, but I can tell you that the regular customer service person told me it couldn't be done. I called our rep, and he told me to insist on speaking with a supervisor and gave me a different number to call. I actually ended up speaking with someone from Canada who set everything up.

The only problems we had was that the BB's came with phone numbers already on them. When we changed the numbers to the ones we already had from our old phones, they didn't disconnect the new BB numbers and when I got my bill I was billed for those also. Even though a BB can only have one phone number, I was billed for 2 on each of the BB's we received. It took about an hour and a half on the phone, but I eventually got that problem taken care of also.

HINT!! If you get a BB (from Nextel anyway), and want to flipflop your old number to it, make sure you tell them to cancel the old one! They don't neccessarily do it automatically.

That flipflop advice is good... and its definantly true that normal customer care doesn't handle what you are asking for, and they are likely to misunderstand what you are asking for since, at least as of a few weeks ago, it wasn't part of what they do or their training, and they don't have an official way to submit this request to another department. Honestly, I dont know how to effectively get this feature... Good luck getting to the right department!

Default Ugh..

I have tried a few times, and each time they want to suggest a hierarchary or something. But when they process it, they end up trying to move the entire phone, Voice service and Data service to be billed directly to me.

They even tried to put the Blackberry service on the alternate phone line with no voice service but that didn't work either.

I'll talk to our internal account rep before I take another stab at it.

Thanks for the advice so far. I'll see what I can accomplish

I have mine setup the opposite way, but the concept is the same. The voice is on my personal account, and the data is on my corporate account.

Your basic Nextel CSR will tell you it's not possible, but it can be done. My corp account rep put in the order for split billing, and then someone from Blackberry support called me back to set it up and confirm.

Fair warning: Before you do this, make sure you have access to both your personal and corporate account numbers, bills, etc. Every time I call CS, I need both account numbers handy.

Thats what I would have tried had you talked to me when I was in customer care or account modifications... there goes that idea... I honestly don't know which department does what you are talking about. good luck!

...you're gonna need it...

Talking All depends on who you talk to!

Ok, so I decided to press my luck again and call Nextel to see if I could get this working. I think I told people what I wanted to do over 20 times. Each time I tried to be as polite, yet firm, as I told them that I know that this is able to be done, but I don't know who I need to talk to.

Finally bounced to Goverment Sales. Spoke with a guy who didn't see this as a big problem. I made sure to ask the same question 5 different ways to make sure it was set up the way I wanted. "Ok, so I will get a bill for $xxx for the data service only, and the rest of the bill will go to my agency as it has for a while now" YES!

I think he was getting tired of me asking questions.

I now have Data service, and will see when the bill comes if they got it right.

Thanks for the help!

It's funny that the Nextel employees that are "in the know" have a hard time believing noone else has heard of it.

1-800-390-9545 is the number you should be calling for any phones that are through a business.

I talked to my trainer, and apparently tier 1 blackberry support does this, I think...

The guy I talked to in Tier 1 had no clue. Spent 20 minutes while he researched it, only to come to the conclusion that it exists, but he couldn't do it. There doesn't seem to be much uniformity (is that a word?) in the training.
