Default Website history tracking?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all-

Love this forum. Finally decided to jump in after I did an exhaustive google search to find an answer to my question.

I know this is probably hopelessly naive and a question everyone but me most likely knows the answer to, but here goes:

Can my employer find out what websites I have visited on my BB using the Internet Explorer? I know they track usage and total cost, but do you think they have the ability to track actual sites visited? I spend a lot of time overseas, so my usage bill is always astronomical, but my website history could get me in a lot of trouble I'm sure.

When I want to look at something non work related on the web, I never use my office network, but use my BB.

I searched and searched for an answer on how this works, but to no avail. I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

If your on the company BES then there's a very good chance they are logging everything you do. It's all up to the company policies and what they are logging.

If you get a call from HR, you'll know for sure.

I'm not sure what BES is...is that an internal network of some kind? Not sure if it means anything, but I always access the web using the internet explorer. I was hoping that bypasses anything internal and just uses a cellular signal through AT&T.

Man, I'm starting to panic here....

Is your Blackberry on a company Blackberry server? That is, do you get your work email on your device. If so, then you're on a BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server).

Assume they CAN track everything. Unless you work for the government, they probably don't care what you're doing via the browser, but DON'T assume that. If you don't want them to see it, don't do it.

Um....oh oh...yes, I do get my email over my BB. Man, I'm freaking out now. No more for me. My buddies are always sending me links to stuff that is most definitely NSFW.

So you are telling me I'm accessing the internet through my companies server? Just like I would at my desktop? Oh crap......

It depends on how they have the browser configured via the BES. I can't check right now, but I believe the carrier's browser can be disabled, and all traffic forced out thru the BES.

Again, they probably don't care. I know I don't give a rats behind what my users are looking at. And if I had to try to find out it would probably involve a twist tie, stick of butter, and duct tape to get the info out of the BES database.

That being said, if you don't want it to bite you in the @ss, stop doing it.
