Default Gmail on Blackberry

I just got my bb pearl today and have set up to use my gmail email on it using the POP server. There is one thing that is going to drive me nuts. When I check my mail on my Mac (using the Mac Mail application) and read an email, my BB still blinks it's light saying I have a new mail message.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to make bb see that I have read the message already and mark it as read?

Thanks in advance as I am pulling my hair out.

Welcome to the blackberry community. What you;re looking for is 2-way read sync. Only Yahoo does that with the blackberry BIS. Google is only one-way, from the BB to Gmail.
